Manchester United could be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer amid concerns over the performances of Andre Onana.

Here, we guide you through every goalkeeper to have been linked with United in recent months. We tell you the players’ ages, current clubs, contract situations and what level of interest the club might have in them.

Note: we’ve not included the likes of James Trafford and Joan Garcia, who were linked with United but have since completed moves to other clubs.

LA LIGA

Andriy Lunin

Current club: Real Madrid

Age: 26

Contract expires: 2030

After Thibaut Courtois missed most of the 2023/24 season, Lunin stepped up and played a crucial role in Real Madrid’s Champions League and La Liga double.

But with Courtois fit again, he has reverted to a deputy role this season and may look to leave the club in search of regular first-team football.

According to reports in Spain, United are willing to submit a bid worth around €40million (£34.4m / $46.6m) for the Ukraine international.

Jan Oblak

Current club: Atletico Madrid

Age: 32

Contract expires: 2028

Since joining Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2014, Oblak has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Reports in Spain claim that he is now looking for ‘one last challenge’ in his career and United will need to offer just €25-30million (up to £25.8m / $35m) in order to sign the Slovenia international.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Age: 25

Contract expires: 2028

Carnesecchi became the first-choice goalkeeper at Atalanta in the 2023/24 season and continued to impress in 2024/25, keeping 18 clean sheets in 44 appearances in all competitions.

According to reports in Italy, United have made contact with the player’s agent regarding a potential move but no approach has been made to Atalanta, who would demand a €50million (£43.1m, $58.3m) fee.

David de Gea

Current club: Fiorentina

Age: 34

Contract expires: 2028

De Gea made over 500 appearances during a 12-year stint at United but was released at the end of the 2022/23 season after being deemed surplus to requirements by Erik ten Hag.

The goalkeeper was without a club for a year before signing a contract with Fiorentina, where he has rediscovered his best form.

He received a hero’s welcome at Old Trafford in a recent friendly with the Serie A side and tabloid reports suggest that United are now looking to bring him back to the club.

Mike Maignan

Current club: AC Milan

Age: 30

Contract expires: 2026

Chelsea looked set to sign Maignan but they backed away from a potential deal after refusing to meet AC Milan’s €25million (£21.5m, $29.1m) asking price.

A summer move could still be on the cards for the France international as online reports in Italy claim that United are looking to bring him to Old Trafford.

Mile Svilar

Current club: Roma

Age: 25

Contract expires: 2027

Svilar was voted as the best Serie A goalkeeper for the 2024/25 season after keeping 16 clean sheets in 38 league appearances for Roma.

The Serbia international was reportedly on United’s radar but has since signed a new deal at Roma, keeping him at the club until 2030.

Zion Suzuki

Current club: Parma

Age: 22

Contract expires: 2029

United agreed a £5million deal to sign Suzuki from Urawa Red Diamonds in the summer of 2023, but he rejected a move to Old Trafford in favour of a loan move to Belgian club Sint-Truiden.

“It’s true that there was an offer from Manchester United,” he said. “As a football player and as a person, if I hadn’t thought about anything, of course, I would like to go to Manchester United, but among them, I really want to spend time thinking about what kind of future awaits me.

“Manchester United have acquired Onana. It’s important for me to participate in matches, and I think it is also important to play on the world stage.”

The Japan international completed a permanent move to Parma last summer and has made a strong impression in his debut Serie A season.

United are reportedly looking to reignite their interest in the 22-year-old, who is now valued at £40million (€46.4m / $54.1m).

BUNDESLIGA

Age: 22

Contract expires: 2030

Reports in Germany claim that United head of recruitment Christopher Vivell has opened talks with Eintracht Frankfurt about a deal for Santos.

But the 22-year-old Brazilian has since suffered a cruciate ligament injury and is expected to be sidelined for several months.

PREMIER LEAGUE

Emiliano Martinez

Current club: Aston Villa

Age: 32

Contract expires:  2029

Villa may have to cash in on Martinez this summer as they try to comply with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

United tried to sign the Argentina international on loan earlier this summer but the offer was rejected by Villa, who have set a £40million asking price.

Stefan Ortega

Current club: Manchester City

Age: 32

Contract expires: 2026

Ortega has acted as a back-up to Ederson throughout his time at City and looks set to leave the Etihad this summer following the signing of James Trafford.

According to online reports in England, United have asked about his availability and willingness to make the move across Manchester.

If a deal is completed, the 32-year-old would become the first senior City player to move directly to Manchester United in the Premier League era.

Anthony Patterson

Current club: Sunderland

Age: 25

Contract expires: 2028

United have reportedly been keeping tabs on Patterson, with the Red Devils looking to add a homegrown goalkeeper to their ranks.

Nick Pope

Current club: Newcastle United

Age: 33

Contract expires: 2026

Aaron Ramsdale’s impending move to Newcastle has prompted speculation that Pope will be sold as he enters the final 12 months of his contract at St. James’ Park.

According to talkSPORT, the 33-year-old fits the profile of the type of goalkeeper United are looking for this summer.

Bart Verbruggen

Current club: Brighton

Age: 23

Contract expires: 2028

Verbruggen was on United’s shortlist of potential options to replace De Gea in the summer of 2023 before they ultimately opted for Onana.

According to tabloid reports, they retain an interest in the Netherlands international and will need to pay at least £30million to strike an agreement with Brighton.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Aynsley Pears

Current club: Blackburn Rovers

Age: 27

Contract expires: 2027

Pears is reportedly seen as an ideal backup goalkeeper for United. The 27-year-old could potentially follow in the footsteps of his father Stephen, who represented the Red Devils between 1979 and 1985.

OTHER LEAGUES

Diogo Costa

Current club:  FC Porto

Age: 25

Contract expires: 2027

Costa has a €75million (£64.6m / $87.5m) release clause in his Porto contract and looks destined for a big move in the near future.

Online reports in England claim that United are considering an offer for the Portugal international, who has previously spoken of his admiration for the Red Devils.

“For me, they are the biggest team in England, a special club and one I have admired since I was a kid,” he said before Porto’s 3-3 draw with United.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

Current club: Paris Saint-Germain

Age: 26

Contract expires: 2026

Donnarumma won the treble with Paris Saint-Germain in the 2024/25 campaign and is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

But contract talks between the two parties have stalled and the Ligue 1 side have already signed Lucas Chevalier to replace the Italy international.

United have explored a potential deal this summer, although Manchester City are currently leading the race for his signature.

Senne Lammens

Current club: Royal Antwerp

Age: 23

Contract expires: 2027

Lammens emerged as one of the most highly rated young goalkeepers in world football following his impressive breakthrough season in 2024/25.

TEAMtalk understands that United recently touched base again about the situation of the 23-year-old, who is interested in a move to Old Trafford.

John Victor

Current club: Botafogo

Age: 29

Contract expires: December 31, 2028

Victor enjoyed an excellent 2024 campaign, helping Botafogo secure the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A title and their first-ever Copa Libertadores title.

While his €10million (£8.6m / $11.6m) move to West Ham fell through, the 29-year-old could still play in the Premier League as Fabrizio Romano revealed he is appreciated by United and highly rated internally by their scouts.
