
Lammens, Donnarumma and De Gea have all been linked with Man Utd
Manchester United could be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer amid concerns over the performances of Andre Onana.
Onana has made a string of high-profile errors during his first two seasons at Old Trafford, while back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has also failed to convince.
Here, we guide you through every goalkeeper to have been linked with United in recent months. We tell you the players’ ages, current clubs, contract situations and what level of interest the club might have in them.
Note: we’ve not included the likes of James Trafford and Joan Garcia, who were linked with United but have since completed moves to other clubs.
LA LIGA
Andriy Lunin
Current club: Real Madrid
Age: 26
Contract expires: 2030
After Thibaut Courtois missed most of the 2023/24 season, Lunin stepped up and played a crucial role in Real Madrid’s Champions League and La Liga double.
But with Courtois fit again, he has reverted to a deputy role this season and may look to leave the club in search of regular first-team football.
According to reports in Spain, United are willing to submit a bid worth around €40million (£34.4m / $46.6m) for the Ukraine international.
Jan Oblak
Current club: Atletico Madrid
Age: 32
Contract expires: 2028
Since joining Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2014, Oblak has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Reports in Spain claim that he is now looking for ‘one last challenge’ in his career and United will need to offer just €25-30million (up to £25.8m / $35m) in order to sign the Slovenia international.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen
Current club: Barcelona
Age: 33
Contract expires: 2028
Ter Stegen may have to leave Barcelona this summer due to Joan Garcia’s arrival and United have reportedly made enquiries for the Germany international.
SERIE A
Marco Carnesecchi
Current club: Atalanta
Age: 25
Contract expires: 2028
Carnesecchi became the first-choice goalkeeper at Atalanta in the 2023/24 season and continued to impress in 2024/25, keeping 18 clean sheets in 44 appearances in all competitions.
According to reports in Italy, United have made contact with the player’s agent regarding a potential move but no approach has been made to Atalanta, who would demand a €50million (£43.1m, $58.3m) fee.
David de Gea
Current club: Fiorentina
Age: 34
Contract expires: 2028
De Gea made over 500 appearances during a 12-year stint at United but was released at the end of the 2022/23 season after being deemed surplus to requirements by Erik ten Hag.
The goalkeeper was without a club for a year before signing a contract with Fiorentina, where he has rediscovered his best form.
He received a hero’s welcome at Old Trafford in a recent friendly with the Serie A side and tabloid reports suggest that United are now looking to bring him back to the club.

Mike Maignan
Current club: AC Milan
Age: 30
Contract expires: 2026
Chelsea looked set to sign Maignan but they backed away from a potential deal after refusing to meet AC Milan’s €25million (£21.5m, $29.1m) asking price.
A summer move could still be on the cards for the France international as online reports in Italy claim that United are looking to bring him to Old Trafford.
Mile Svilar
Current club: Roma
Age: 25
Contract expires: 2027
Svilar was voted as the best Serie A goalkeeper for the 2024/25 season after keeping 16 clean sheets in 38 league appearances for Roma.
The Serbia international was reportedly on United’s radar but has since signed a new deal at Roma, keeping him at the club until 2030.
Zion Suzuki
Current club: Parma
Age: 22
Contract expires: 2029
United agreed a £5million deal to sign Suzuki from Urawa Red Diamonds in the summer of 2023, but he rejected a move to Old Trafford in favour of a loan move to Belgian club Sint-Truiden.
“It’s true that there was an offer from Manchester United,” he said. “As a football player and as a person, if I hadn’t thought about anything, of course, I would like to go to Manchester United, but among them, I really want to spend time thinking about what kind of future awaits me.
“Manchester United have acquired Onana. It’s important for me to participate in matches, and I think it is also important to play on the world stage.”
The Japan international completed a permanent move to Parma last summer and has made a strong impression in his debut Serie A season.
United are reportedly looking to reignite their interest in the 22-year-old, who is now valued at £40million (€46.4m / $54.1m).

Gregor Kobel
Current club: Borussia Dortmund
Age: 27
Contract expires: 2028
Kobel has been a standout performer for Borussia Dortmund in recent years and was named in the 2023/24 Champions League Team of the Season.
According to a British tabloid, United hold a long-standing interest in the Switzerland international and will battle Chelsea for his signature in the summer.
Kaua Santos
Current club: Eintracht Frankfurt
Age: 22
Contract expires: 2030
Reports in Germany claim that United head of recruitment Christopher Vivell has opened talks with Eintracht Frankfurt about a deal for Santos.
But the 22-year-old Brazilian has since suffered a cruciate ligament injury and is expected to be sidelined for several months.
PREMIER LEAGUE
Emiliano Martinez
Current club: Aston Villa
Age: 32
Contract expires: 2029
Villa may have to cash in on Martinez this summer as they try to comply with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
United tried to sign the Argentina international on loan earlier this summer but the offer was rejected by Villa, who have set a £40million asking price.

Stefan Ortega
Current club: Manchester City
Age: 32
Contract expires: 2026
Ortega has acted as a back-up to Ederson throughout his time at City and looks set to leave the Etihad this summer following the signing of James Trafford.
According to online reports in England, United have asked about his availability and willingness to make the move across Manchester.
If a deal is completed, the 32-year-old would become the first senior City player to move directly to Manchester United in the Premier League era.
Anthony Patterson

United have reportedly been keeping tabs on Patterson, with the Red Devils looking to add a homegrown goalkeeper to their ranks.
Nick Pope

Verbruggen was on United’s shortlist of potential options to replace De Gea in the summer of 2023 before they ultimately opted for Onana.
According to tabloid reports, they retain an interest in the Netherlands international and will need to pay at least £30million to strike an agreement with Brighton.

Costa has a €75million (£64.6m / $87.5m) release clause in his Porto contract and looks destined for a big move in the near future.
Online reports in England claim that United are considering an offer for the Portugal international, who has previously spoken of his admiration for the Red Devils.
“For me, they are the biggest team in England, a special club and one I have admired since I was a kid,” he said before Porto’s 3-3 draw with United.

Gianluigi Donnarumma
Current club: Paris Saint-Germain
Age: 26
Contract expires: 2026
Donnarumma won the treble with Paris Saint-Germain in the 2024/25 campaign and is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
But contract talks between the two parties have stalled and the Ligue 1 side have already signed Lucas Chevalier to replace the Italy international.
United have explored a potential deal this summer, although Manchester City are currently leading the race for his signature.
