Luis Diaz vs. Harry Kane: How star striker’s $29 million compares to Bayern Munich’s new signing’s wages

Luis Diaz has been one of the headline signings of the 2025 transfer window, with Bayern Munich ultimately landing the Colombian star. With a lucrative new deal in place, comparisons are already being drawn between Diaz’s salary and that of Bayern’s marquee striker, Harry Kane, who earns around $29 million a year.

Liverpool brought Diaz in from Porto in 2022 for a €49 million fee as the successor to longtime star Sadio Mane. The winger adapted quickly to Jürgen Klopp’s system, but it was last season under Arne Slot that he hit peak form—appearing in 50 matches, scoring 17 goals, and providing eight assists.

During his three years at Anfield, Diaz lifted five trophies, including Liverpool’s second-ever Premier League title in 2024–25. However, with the club falling short in the Champions League and Diaz seeking a pay rise, a squad overhaul paved the way for him to move on.

In a deal worth €70 million—and despite interest from Barcelona—Bayern met Liverpool’s asking price to secure Diaz. The 28-year-old follows in the footsteps of compatriot James Rodriguez as the latest Colombian to wear Bayern colors, and he has already locked down the left flank in preseason, forming a dangerous partnership with Kane.

Kane and Diaz’s salaries

When Harry Kane arrived in Munich in 2023 following Robert Lewandowski’s departure, he became the most expensive signing in German football history at €95 million from Tottenham. According to beIN SPORTS, Kane’s gross salary stands at $28.75 million per year—rounded up to $29 million—making him the club’s highest earner.

Diaz’s wages don’t quite match Kane’s, but they’re still among the biggest at Bayern. Bild reports that his four-year deal, which runs until 2029 with an option to extend, is worth around €14 million ($16.3 million) gross annually, about $10.4 million net.

It’s a massive jump from what Diaz was making in England. At Liverpool, where his contract ran through 2027, he earned just £2.8 million a year, ranking 19th among the squad’s salaries. His new Bayern deal represents a significant leap in both pay and status.
