Sacking Loom this weekend as Postecoglou contract uncertain

Nottingham Forest are considering a shock move for a high-flying Premier League boss as pressure mounts on current boss Ange Postecoglou after a dismal start to his tenure.

Postecoglou, who joined Forest just six matches ago, has struggled to implement his high-octane, attacking philosophy at the City Ground, leaving the team teetering just above the Premier League relegation places.

The Australian’s short stint has been marred by lacklustre performances and disappointing results, prompting owner Evangelos Marinakis to contemplate another bold decision.

Marinakis, known for his impulsive managerial changes, is said to be furious with Forest’s early-season form. Despite the incredible job done by Nuno Espirito Santo last season, Marinakis decided to sack him after a slump in form and is now not happy with the outcome of his own decision.

Sources close to the club suggest the Greek tycoon is already exploring replacements, with Oliver Glasner emerging as a prime candidate.

The Austrian tactician has earned plaudits for his work at Crystal Palace, where his high-pressing, dynamic style has transformed the Eagles into a formidable outfit.

Glasner’s success, including a strong record against top-six sides, makes him an attractive option for Forest’s ambitious owner.

Whether Glasner would want to work with Marinakis, however, is a big question and there are bigger jobs on the horizon.

Postecoglou’s own struggles contrast sharply with his successful start at Tottenham, where he revitalised the squad with an entertaining brand of football.

However, injuries, tactical missteps, and a lack of squad cohesion have plagued his time at Forest, raising questions about his fit for the club. Fans are divided, with some urging patience for the former Celtic boss, while others back Marinakis’ apparent readiness to act swiftly.

A move for Glasner would not be straightforward, as Palace are unlikely to let their manager go without a fight. Forest would also need to navigate compensation costs and convince Glasner to leave a stable project for one in flux.

As Marinakis weighs his options, the coming days could prove pivotal for Postecoglou, whose future hangs in the balance. Will Forest stick with their man, or is another managerial shake-up on the horizon?

Postecoglou not feeling pressure

But Postecoglou feels he can work with the threat he is under.

He said prior to Sunday’s trip to Newcastle: “It’s a valid assumption in modern football that there’s always a manager under pressure.”That’s just part and parcel of what we do and I just don’t think that way.

“Put it this way, I knew I was getting sacked at Tottenham about three or four months before I did but it didn’t stop me winning something.

“My responsibility lies in making sure this football club progresses and gets to a position where we can challenge for things.

“If I start worrying about what’s going to happen next week, then I’m not performing the role I’ve been given.

“I don’t think it’s helpful to anyone. I’m strong in my belief that we’re not too far away.”
